Charles R. Pattie 20 December 1850 - 9 February 1876 Denison Daily News
Friday, February 11, 1876 pg. 3 A House In Mourning Capt. J.W. Pattie received the sad intelligence from Van Alstyne, Thursday noon, by telegraph, that his son Charles died a t 10 o'clock Thursday morning, of hemorrhage of the lungs. Capt. Pattie left this city for home on the evening train. Charles Pattie was a promising young man of 26 years of age, and at the time of his death was postmaster at Van Alstyne. He was educated at the Bonham College, where he was a very close student. It was here that his health was undermined, and the seeds of that dread disease, pulmonary consumption, took root, and which resisted the best medical skill. While his death was looked for, as he had been gradually failing for over a year, it was not expected that the fatal shaft would strike so suddenly. Captain Pattie and the members of his family have our heartfelt sympathy in their great bereavement, and the sympathies of many new-made friends in Denison go with the Captain to his home of sadness. The sudden death of Capt. Pattie's son, the news of which reached him at this place Thursday noon, will of course prevent him from engaging further in the canvass as candidate for Representative. We make this announcement that Capt. Pattie's friends throughout the county may understand the circumstances.
