Miss Jewel Ola May Jackson was born on April 3, 1902, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. A. Jackson, at the family home, south of Van Alstyne. She grew to young womanhood in this community and on August 25, 1919, was married to Ezra Overstreet. To this union two children were born, James Thomas and Edith Joe Overstreet. On February 13, 1927 following an illness of several weeks, Mrs. Overstreet passed into rest at her home southeast of Van Alstyne, at the age of 24 years, 11 months, 10 days. During her illness everything possible was done and skilled medical attention and nursing were availed of in an effort to have her restored to health, but death claimed her despite this care and attention.
Surviving are the husband, the children, her grandmother Mrs. M. Daily, her mother, Mrs. Martha Jackson, and brothers and sisters as follows: Mrs. Rebecca Keller, Mrs. Mary Daugherty, Leonard Jackson, Lester Jackson, George Jackson, Stonewall Jackson and Miss Velma Jackson, all of this community. In addition, a number of other relatives mourn the passing of this splendid young woman.
Among a large circle of friends and acquaintances, Mrs. Overstreet was held in the highest esteem and regard. During the entire period of her life which had been spent altogether in this community, she impressed all with whom she came into contact with the sincerity and womanliness of her character and disposition, and made friends among every element of the people. In 1923, during the pastorate of Rev. B. C. Land, Mrs. Overstreet became a member of the First Baptist church, maintaining that connection with devotion and fidelity until her death. The sympathy which is felt for the family and relatives is general throughout this community, and most sincere.
Funeral services for Mrs. Overstreet were held on Monday, February 14, from the First Baptist church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. F. C. Dick, Rev. G. C. Brewer, pastor of the Walnut street Church of Christ at Sherman, and J.D.L. McKinney, an old friend of the family. A large concourse of friends from all sections of this community attended the service and listened with sympathetic attention as the touching eulogies were pronounced by those conduting the obsequies.
