Mr.
John Leonard Murphy was born in Pilot Grove,
Texas on June 5, 1909, the
son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Murphy
Sr. He united with the
C.M.E. church at an early age. On
January 27, 1934 he married
Miss Oleta Beck. To this union eleven children
were born.
He
departed this life at 2:20 a.m. on April 26,
1986. Surviving are his
wife, Oleta Murphy, Van Alstyne, Texas; five
sons: Morris D. Murphy,
Denver, Colorado; John D. Murphy, Greenville,
Texas; Richard D. Murphy,
Dallas, Texas; Eddie W. and Darryle G. Murphy,
Van Alstyne Texas;
daughters: Mrs. Virginia R. McKinney, Mrs.
Wanda Lee, Dallas, Texas;
Lesida F. McLean, Victorville, California;
Mrs. Lindia Wright, Great
Falls, Montana; Marquetta Murphy, Van Alstyne,
Texas; Vicky L. Gibson,
Austin, Texas; one sister, Mrs. Pauline Allen,
McKinney, Texas;
forty-one grandchildren; eighteen
great-grandchildren; a host of
relatives and friends.
