Van
Alstyne, Texas -- Imogene (Jean) Whitfield
Miller, 80, died October 23,
2014 in the residence of her daughter,
Sumaiya Lloyd, and was
surrounded by love from her children and
loved ones. She was born
November 9, 1933 in Anna, Texas, into a
sharecropper’s family and built
her ‘working’ core values by picking cotton
as a youth. She
continued her work ethic by managing a Dairy
Queen with her first
husband in Wyoming. She then found and
excelled at her career of
46 years as an executive secretary for Texas
Instruments.
Jean
embraced all the technological advances
along the way in support of her
profession. She passed this work ethic by
example on to her children.
She expressed many other fine qualities of
care, compassion,
determination and commitment to
family. Although she was quiet
and reserved, Jean had an adventuresome
spirit displayed by her many
travels. At 16, she left the family home for
the big city (Ft.
Worth). At 20, she took a chance
on a letter invitation to
meet serviceman Vernon Lloyd in Wyoming (a
week later they were
married). She explored Egypt with her
daughter Sumaiya, England with
second husband Jim Miller, and Malaysia with
son Gary. She smiled big
on the back of daughter Lisa’s motorcycle,
and walked down an entire
ski mountain, until her legs gave way. She
faced each new challenge in
life like she faced death, with poise,
dignity and strength. We will
all miss her love and caring way greatly.
Jean
called four places home in her life; Van
Alstyne, Texas; Buffalo,
Wyoming, Dallas , Texas; and Denver,
Colorado. Regardless of the
location thoug;, her passion for her
Home remained gardening,
whether it was vegetables or flowers.
This was epitomized by her
effort to create a botanical oasis at
her residence in Dallas. It’s hard to
imagine what her life might have been, had
it not been primarily
Mom,
but one can imagine great successes. We, her
children, are grateful she
chose Mom. With Love, Respect, and Awe we
say goodbye.
Jean
