- Funeral services for J. Hie McKinney,
56, who died at his
home in Quanah Thursday morning are to
be held at the First Christian
church in Van Alstyne at 2 p.m.
Friday. Burial will follow in Van
Alstyne cemetery. The local
pastor, the Rev. Lloyd Mottley, and
the Rev. Leo Johnstone of Dallas,
a former pastor, will officiate.
Mr.
McKinney was born in Van Alstyne in January,
1877, the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Joe A. McKinney. His father was a
descendant of the North
Texas pioneer, Collin McKinney, and his mother
a member of the Kepler
family who were also pioneers. He
received his education in Van
Alstyne, graduating at Old Columbia college
and later attending a
business college in Dallas. He was
associated with his father in
the ginning and milling business here for many
years, assuming entire
control upon the death of his father. He
kept the business until
1923 when he disposed of his interests and
became connected with the
West Texas Oil and Gin Company. Later he
was promoted to the
managership of the company's plants, being
stationed successively at
Colorado, Midland, Lubbock and Quanah which
was his home at the time of
his death.
He was prominent in
Masonry, affiliated with the Mantua lodge at
Van Alstyne.
While
living in Van Alstyne Mr. McKinney served as
superintendent of the
Christian Sunday school for a number of years,
he was a member of the
school board and president of the Van Alstyne
cemetery association.
In
1899 he was married to Miss Lola Neathery, who
with their son James,
two sisters, Misses Gresham and Margie Dell
McKinney of McKinney and a
number of other relatives survive him.

Services were held
Tuesday at 10:30 a.m.
in Dannel Funeral Chapel in Sherman for Mrs.
Lola Neathery McKinney,
91, who died Saturday night in a Sherman
hospital. Rev. Fred T.
Hall of the Central Christian Church
officiated and burial was in Van
Alstyne Cemetery.
Born July 25, 1881, at
Pilot Grove, she
was the daughter of the late James E. and
Georgia Hayes Neathery.
She was married to J. Hie McKinney in 1901 at
Van Alstyne. She
was a resident of this area most of her life
but had moved here in 1960
from Quanah. She was a member of Central
Christian Church.
Her only survivors are
a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Edith McKinney of
Quanah; and a granddaughter, Mrs. Phillip
Reimer of Sherman.
