VAN ALSTYNE - Services for
Victor Otis Jay, 82, retired Van
Alstyne farmer and carpenter who died
Monday at his home after a long
illness, will be held at 2 p.m.
Wednesday at Flesher Funeral Chapel,
conducted by the Rev. Jerry Scott and
the Rev. J.I.Gregory, Baptist
ministers, and the Rev. Donald
Griffith, Christian minister.
Burial
will be at Van Alstyne Cemetery.
Born
in
Texas, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs.
Robert O. Jay, and married
Lira England on Aug. 23, 1914 in Van
Alstyne. He was a member of the
First Baptist Church.
Surviving
are
his wife; daughters, Mrs. Evelyn Hood
of Fort Worth, Mrs. Aline
Whitehead of Van Alstyne, Mrs. Vivian
Hill of Richardson and Mrs.
Barbara Holder of Dallas; sons, Alman
Jay of Van Alstyne and Garnett
Jay of San Antonio; sisters, Mrs.
Gertie Tate and Mrs. Thelma Walsh,
both of Van Alstyne, and Mrs. Pearl
Taylor of McKinney; 11
grandchildren and 16
great-grandchildren.
The
family will be at the funeral home
from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Funeral
services were held Wednesday at
Flesher Funeral Home chapel for Victor
Otis Jay, 82-year-old farmer and
carpenter who died at his home here.
Rites
were
conducted by the Rv. Jerry Scott, Rev.
Don Griffith and the Rev.
J.I.Gregory. Burial was in the Van
Alstyne Cemetery.
Born
on
Dec. 28, 1893, son of the late Robert
O. Jay and Eva Lena Henley
Jay, he was a member of the Van
Alstyne Baptist Church. He was married
August 23, 1914 in Van Alstyne to Lira
England.
Mr.
Jay
is survived by his wife; four
daughters, Mrs. Evelyn Hood of Fort
Worth; Mrs. Aline Whitehead, Van
Alstyne; Mrs. Vivian Hill of
Richardson, and Mrs. Barbara Holder,
Dallas; two sons, Alman Jay of Van
Alstyne and Garnett Jay, San Antonio;
three sisters, Mrs. Gertie Tate
and Mrs. Thelma Walsh, both of Van
Alstyne; and Mrs. Pearl Taylor of
McKinney; 11 grandchildren and 16
great-grandchildren.

Lira Rachel Jay, 93, of Van Alstyne
were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday
in Flesher Funeral home with burial
in Van Alstyne Cemetery. She died
Saturday in North Texas Medical
Center in McKinney.
Mrs.
Jay
was born in Van Alstyne, a daughter
of Mr. and Mrs. John Almon
England and married Victor O. Jay on
Aug. 23, 1914 in Van Alstyne. She
was a member of the First Baptist
Church in Van Alstyne.
Surviving
are
her daughters, Evelyn Melot and
Allene Whitehead of Van Alstyne,
Vivian Hill of Richardson and
Barbara Holder of Dallas; son,
Garnet Jay
of Bulverde; sisters, Lorene Overby
of Howe, and Mae Richardson of Van
Alstyne; 11 grandchildren; 24
great-grandchildren and 10
great-great-grandchildren.
