Shurd
"Learoy" Huddleston, age 66 of Van
Alstyne, TX passed away January 22,
2010 at his home. He was born on
October 11, 1943 in Van Alstyne
to Shurd and Beatrice (Headrick)
Huddleston. He graduated from
Van Alstyne High School and served in
the U.S. Air Force during the
Vietnam War from 1966 to 1970.
Learoy married Virginia Atkins on
November 16, 2007 in Van
Alstyne. He retired from GTE
Telephone
Co. out of Sherman after 31 years of
service.
Learoy
was
a big deer hunter and he collected guns.
Each year he saved
his vacation time from work until deer season
came from November 1st
through January 1st. That is how he
spent his vacation each
year. He and Virginia would go and spend
two weeks at a time, and
most times each of them would come home with a
deer. He wore a
hat that said "Born to Hunt. Forced to
Work". The past
three years he has been ill and couldn't go as
often, but if you wanted
to know anything about any kind of gun, Learoy
could tell you.
He
is survived by his wife, Virginia Huddleston
of Van Alstyne, TX;
daughter, Julie Molder and husband Scott of
Bedford, TX; two
grandchildren, Aaron and Meredith Molder of
Bedford, TX; one brother,
Charles Douglas Huddleston and wife Joyce of
Luella, TX; three
step-children, Rikki Jones and Ricky Atkins of
Van Alstyne, TX and Jeff
Atkins and wife, Julie of Weston, TX; eight
step-grandchildren; six
step-great-grandchildren; a host of nieces and
nephews. Learoy
was preceded in death by his son, Darrell Lee
Huddleston; sister, Betty
McClusky; two half-brothers, Billy Frank and
Lewis Huddleston;
half-sister, Louise Borkholm; mother, Beatrice
Huddleston and father,
Shurd Huddleston.
Funeral
services
will be held at 2:30 pm Monday, January 25,
2010 at Flesher
Funeral Chapel in Van Alstyne with Bro. Bobby
Hash officiating.
Interment will follow at Van Alstyne
Cemetery. Visitation will be
held at 1:30 pm, Monday, one hour prior to the
service.
