Leo Hill, 76, passed away on Wednesday, September 30, 2020 in Denison,
Texas. Galen was preceded in death by his mother Imogene Hill and
father Louis H. Hill.
Galen was born on May 7, 1944 in Burbank, California, and he was a proud native of the Golden State. Galen grew up in the Los Angeles area where he was an avid Dodger’s fan. Galen had passion for baseball that was formed by many trips to the right field seats of Dodger’s stadium with his father. After moving to Texas Galen adopted the Texas rangers as his home team. His love and great knowledge of the sport never waned. Before moving to Van Alstyne, Texas in the mid 70’s, Galen worked at several different jobs in California. These included custodial work in a nursing facility and work in a PCB manufacturing facility. After moving to Van Alstyne Galen could often be seen in town collecting cans. Galen adamantly believed that even though he had earned the benefits he received form government he should work. Collecting cans for recycling became his work and mission. Galen moved to Sherman in the late 80’s where he continued his work recycling cans. Galen was also a charter member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Sherman. He loved the church, and was active in the Men’s Breakfast Group and Joy Class, and other church activities. Church members remember Galen for his sense of humor, wit, and knowledge of the bible. In addition to Church and his work recycling, Galen traveled whenever possible. His favorite destination was Los Angles, CA. His love of travel included the trip itself. Galen loved flying, and he knew the model number and details of any plane he was flying on at the time. During his trips he would visit with old friends and enjoy the best Mexican food Los Angeles could offer. He never met a chili relleno he did not like, and when traveling he also seemed to never meet a stranger. He loved to discuss trivia with anyone he met during his trips. For the past three years Galen has lived at the Woodlands Place in Denison, Texas. During his time Galen shared his sense of humor, trivia knowledge and love of sports with the residents there. The staff and residents at the Woodlands befriended Galen and became a second family for him. Galen will be missed. Graveside services will be held at 2:00PM Sunday, October 4, 2020 at the Van Alstyne Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Scoggins Funeral Home & Crematory, 637 W. Van Alstyne, Pkwy.
