April 24, 1953 pg 3 Van Football Player Dies In Sherman-Hospital VAN ALSTYNE - Funeral services were held Friday at 3 p.m. at the First Baptist Church for 17-year old Walter Choice Jay, outstanding football palyer, who died at a Sherman hospital Thursday after an illness of several days. The Rev. Jimmy Duckworth, pastor, conducted the service. Assisting were the Rev. J. W. Jackson and the Rev. Allie Woodard. Burial was in Van Alstyne Cemtery, directed by Fox-Flesher Funeral Home. A native and life-long resident of Van Alstyne, young Jay had attended both the elementary and high school here. In 1952 he was elected most popular boy in his class. He was outstanding in other sports as well as football. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter B. Jay. He was a member of the Baptist Church. Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Lillie Jay of Van Alstyne; thress sisters, Mrs. Albert Kirby and Mrs. Roy Shelley, both of Denison, and Mrs. Johnny Horton of Van Alstyne; his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. R.
