Friday, January 3, 1941 pg. 1 Mrs. Amanda Henley Dies at Sherman Sherman - Mrs. Amanda Henley, 88, died at 12:30 a.m. Monday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W.C. Jay, 100 North Andrews. She had been ill 4 days. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at the Talley chapel, conducted by Rev. C. Chumbley of Howe. Burial was in Van Alstyne Cemetery. Mrs. Henley was born January 25, 1852, in Mississippi, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Hammon. She came to Texas in 1875 and to Sherman from Van Alstyne 14 years ago. Her husband died 25 years ago. She was a member of the Missionary Baptist Church of Howe. Surviving are 4 daughters, Mrs. R.O. Jay of Van Alstyne; Mrs. E.E. Edwards of Muskogee, Oklahoma; Mrs. W.C. Jay of Sherman; and Mrs. Ed Jay of Howe; and one son, Charlie Henley of Howe. Also surviving are 46 grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren. Grandsons were pallbearers.
