A.S. Gentry, 63 years old, died Sunday afternoon. Mr. Gentry had been
in declining health for five years and was living in the Maple
community at the time of his death. He was a victim of paralysis,
having suffered a stroke several years ago and two or three light
strokes since that time, the last one coming shortly before he died. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Van Alstyne cemetery, the Rev. C.O. Hitt, pastor First Baptist Church, conducting the services. The deceased was born March 27, 1865, at Thompsonville, Ky., and came to Texas in 1876, locating in Grayson County. He was married Oct. 8, 1890, in Sherman, to Miss Nettie McDaniel. Surviving are his wife and four sons, Odgen Gentry, Guy Gentry, Golden Gentry, and Carl Gentry, all of Van Alstyne; seven daughters, Mrs. Beulah Whitfield, Mangrum, Okla.; Mrs. Callie Morris, Colorado Springs, Colo.; Mrs. Bertha Cates, Sackawa, Okla.; Mrs. Jennie Woods, Van Alstyne; Mrs. Beatrice Helms, Weston; Mrs. Lily Phillips, Van Alstyne; Mrs. Gladys Sinco, Sherman; three sisters, Mrs. Kate Miller, Van Alstyne; Mrs. Nancy Means, Van Alstyne; Mrs. Millie Price, California; four brothers, William Gentry, Van Alstyne; Richard Gentry, Altus, Okla.; Jim Gentry, Gunter; Lee Gentry, Altus, Okla., and by thirty-four grandchildren.
