Mrs. Gaines Dies At Norman, Okla.
Body Brought Here for Burial - Survived by Four Children

Mrs. M.E. Gaines, 86 years old, died Sunday afternoon at the home of her daughter in Norman, Okla.  Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the First Methodist church, conducted by the Rev. A.A. Kidd, pastor, assisted by the Revs. Hitt and Henson. Burial was in the Van Alstyne cemetery.
Mrs. Mary (Sanders) Gaines was born in Coree County, Tennessee, Dec. 18, 1841. Died April 29, 1928, age 86 years, 4 months and 10 days.
She came to Texas in February 1879 and located in the Sister Grove community. After living here for about 25 years, she moved to Fannin County. In 1920 she moved to Norman, Okla., where she resided until her death.
She professed religion at the age of 44 years and united with the Progressive Christians, living a devoted Christian until her death.
She was married in 1860 to James Gaines of Tennessee. To this union were born ten children, seven boys and three girls. Only four of these children are now living, namely: J.A. Gaines, Kemp, Texas; D.B. Gaines, Estell Springs, Tenn., J.L. Gaines, Denison, Texas and Mrs. W.L. Simmons, Norman, Okla.
Mrs. Gaines's entire life has been one of simplicity and moderation and by her own request no flowers were bought by the family.
Pall bearers were: Bud Eatherly, Will Huckaby, Louis Baldwin, G.G. Strickland, J.K. Richardson, Ben Arnspiger.
