Denton Record Chronicle Wednesday, June 30, 1965 Tioga (Special) - Funeral services for Mrs. Mittie Self, 81, will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday in the First Baptist Church of Tioga. The Rev. Bob Hinson, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in the Tioga Cemetery with the Beck Funeral Home of Pilot Point in charge. Mrs. Self, a former resident of Tioga, lived in Sherman with a daughter, Miss Anita Self, at the time of her death. She died at 3 a.m. today in the Community Hospital in Sherman, following a four week illness. A member of the First Baptist Church of Sherman. Mrs. Self was born May 25, 1884 in Corinth, Mississippi. She was married to L.A. Self May 20, 1900 and moved to Tioga in 1904. The couple has lived in Sherman since 1953. Survivors include her husband; one son, L.E. "Buddy" Self of Garland; four daughters: Miss Anita Self, with whom she made her home; Mr. J.T. Strawe of Sherman; Mrs. Edna Huffman of Denison; and Mrs. W.T. Riley, Jr. of Tioga; one sister, Mrs. Mollie Holloway of Tioga and one brother, Lon Henderson of Littlefield. Mrs. Self is also survived by 14 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Grandson will act as pallbearers. Tioga, Texas - Services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Tioga First Baptist Church for L.A. Self, 90, a retired farmer of Tioga, who died at 10:30 a.m. Sunday in a Sherman, Texas hospital. Burial will be in Tioga Cemetery under the direction of Beck Funeral Home. Mr. Self was born June 11, 1880 in Kerby, Arkansas. He came to Hunt County as a child with his parents and to Tioga in 1903. He married Mittie Henderson in Greenville May 20, 1900. She preceded him in death in 1965. Mr. Self was a member of the Tioga Baptist Church and the Odd Fellows Lodge. Survivors include one son, Buddy Self of Moore, Oklahoma; four daughters: Mrs. Edna Huffman of Denison, Mrs. Oleta Riley of Sanger; Mrs. J.T. Sprowel and Mrs. Butler Munroe of Sherman; 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Self's grandson will be pallbearers.
