He was born on December 18, 1924 in Tioga to Will and Helen Turpin Graves. He married Nadine Bradford on February 9, 1956 in Tioga. He owned and operated Graves Grocery in Tioga for 39 years. A funeral service was held Wednesday afternoon, December 29 at Huff/Slay Funeral Home with Rev. Luther Slay officiating; burial followed at Tioga Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Nadine of Tioga; two sons, Curtis Graves of Tioga and Raymond Graves of Collinsville; one brother, Don Graves of Pilot Point; 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Jo Ann McWhorter; 2 brothers, Buster Graves and Jake Graves; 2 sisters, Nannie Lee Young and Annie Davis. Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Donna, son, Jimmy Harold; sisters, Faye Gressett and Karitha Canady; and his parents. He is survived by 2 sons: Billy Don Graves of Sanger and Tim Graves and wife Stacia of Gunter; 2 step-brothers: Randy and Harold Simpson; step-sister: Debbie Simpson; 3 grandchildren: Kerby Graves, Peyton Graves, and Paxtyn Graves; 3 great-grandchildren: Jayden Vega, Miguel Vega, and Zoey Goytia; sister in law, Barbara O'Neal Elmore; and several nieces and nephews. Wanda Nadine Graves, 84, of Tioga, Texas, passed away Tuesday, February 21, 2023 in Plano, Texas. She was born February 1, 1939 in Grayson County, Texas, daughter of Doff Felix and Dovie Elizabeth Whitworth Bradford. Nadine married Vestle Lee "Joe" Graves on February 9, 1956 in Tioga. She was an avid volleyball player. Nadine and Joe owned and operated Graves Grocery Store in Tioga for 39 years. She helped raise many generations of kids. She spent the last several years caring for her great-grandchildren: Mason, Easton, and Addison Tucker, whom she adored. Nadine is survived by her 2 sons, Curtis Graves and wife, Debbie, of Tioga; and Raymond Graves and wife, Melody, of Collinsville, Texas; 6 grandchildren: Brandi Jackson; Jason Graves; Chris Graves; Caitlin Tucker; Callie Harris; and Aaron McWhorter; 10 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Joyce Kays of Woodbine, Texas; and Lois Ann Osburn of Pilot Point, Texas. Nadine was preceded in death by her husband; parents; daughter, Jo Ann McWhorter; 10 brothers and 11 sisters. Funeral service was held Tuesday afternoon, February 28, 2023 at Slay Memorial Chapel in Aubrey with Toby Osburn officiating. Interment followed at Tioga Cemetery, Tioga, Texas.
