George
Louis Conway, Sr., 72, died Friday, May 8, at his residence in Sherman,
Texas after a long battle with lung cancer. A Memorial service
will be held on Monday, May 18, at 2 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Mr.
Conway was born in St. Louis, Missouri, on May 5, 1937, to Charles
Francis Conway and Amelia Buchholz Conway. He graduated from St.
Louis University with a degree in geophysical enginnering only days
before being married to Mary Dorothy Wilhelm. After an initial
foray into the oil industry, he began a long and varied career in the
garment industry, including fifteen years at Diaper Jeans in Denison,
Texas. He lived 29 years in Sherman. He enjoyed playing
bridge and tennis until his wife died at which time he began extensive
genealogical research.
He was predeceased by his wife, Mary, his parents, and his sister Elizabeth Kempland.
George
is survived by his six children along with their spouses : Christy
Conway, George and Dorothy Conway, Kathy and Rayner Krause, Paul and
Lisa Conway, Keith Conway, and Bruce and Deborah Conway; two brothers :
James Conway and Charles Conway; three sisters : Rita Kaczmarski,
Virginia Mueller, and Mary Thurman; four grandchildren and numerous
nieces and nephews.
