J. A. Burke April 1852 - February 1932 Bonham Daily Favorite February 2, 1932 SHERMAN LOSES LIFE WHEN FLAMES DESTORY HIS HOME Sherman, Texas, Feb. 1 - The life of J.A. Burke, 79, was claimed by fire Sunday night when flames encircled the bed in which he lay and caught bedclothing afire. Being virtually an invalid, Mr. Burke had no chance for escape. It is thought by fire officials that a kerosene lamp on a table near the bed exploded, spreading flames. Mr. Burke, particularly known as Uncle Jimmie, had been confined to his bed for almost six months. Harry Miller, first to notice the flames, entered the home in an effort to save Mr. Burke but the flames prevented a rescue. Funeral service were held Monday, conducted by the Rev. J.G. O'Donohoe, pastor of St. Mary's Catholic Church, with burial in St. Mary's cemetery. There are no survivors. St. Mary's Cemetery Susan Hawkins © 2024 Grayson County TXGenWeb |
