Surrounded by his
family in the comfort of his home in Sherman, Texas, Jerry Max Kelley, beloved
husband, father, papa, brother, uncle and friend to many slipped away from this
world on February 5th 2015. He was 59 years.
Max was born to Jerry and
Lucy Hilz Kelley in Denton, Texas in 1956. Their family moved to Sherman in 1960
when his father was transferred to Sherman to manage the local Allied Fence
Company. Max attended St. Mary's Catholic school and graduated from Sherman High
School in 1974. During his high school years, his passion was football and his
love for the game continued throughout his lifetime.
Max spent his teen
years working periodically for Allied Fence Company, which was managed and later
owned by his father. After a few years of working in the hotel business in the
Dallas, Texas area during his twenties, Max returned to Allied Fence Co, where
he made the fence business his life career until the time of his illness. He
continued part time consultation and assisted his son on estimates when possible
up until a few months before his death. He took great pride in the fact that his
son joined him (and now manages) the company his father took over in 1960,
marking three generations and 54 consistent years of Kelley management.
His hobbies include Fishing, Camping, Hunting, Traveling and Collecting.
Max had multiple collections including sports memorabilia, trains, WWII
artifacts, Nutcrackers and most recently German Steins. He and his wife would
spend weekends antiquing and treasure hunting at estate sales, flea markets and
small town shops.
Max loved the Holidays and enjoyed dressing up at
Halloween and decorating the yard during the Christmas. Almost to the point of
obsessive, at one time there were so many blow-ups in the yard they couldn't get
them all to fit. He loved that cars would slow down and often stop to enjoy his
Holiday Yard spectacle. It gave him pleasure to give others pleasure during the
Holiday season.
Max enjoyed coaching little league baseball and
football, assisting with boy scouts, and being active with his children's
activities, but nothing gave him as much joy as spending time with his
grandchildren.
Max is survived by his wife of 32 years Judy Adair Kelley
and their three children: Jennifer Kelley Harmon and husband Jonathan, Brian
Kelley and wife Nikki, Katy Kelley and fiance Tyler Vaught. Five grandchildren,
Courtney, Kylie, Jace and Avery Harmon and Nolan Kelley. He is also survived by
his 5 siblings, Brothers: Eric Kelley and wife Karen, Mark Kelley and wife
Paula, and David Kelley. Sisters: Cynthia Kelley Johnson and husband Steve and
Kimberly Kelley Hoak and husband Al. He is also survived by his very dear nieces
and nephews and a wealth of lifelong friends. He was preceded in death by his
parents and infant brother Kirk.
Rosary was recited by the Rev. Bruce
Bradley, Pastor of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, Plano, Texas, at
Waldo Funeral Home Chapel.

of Christian burial was celebrated at St. Mary's Catholich Church,
Sherman. Rev. Bradley officiated, assisted at the altar by Rev.
