Lieutenant Arnold
was born in Sherman, Texas the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Henry Arnold. He died at
Sam Rayburn Veteran's Hospital in Bonham, Texas. He was a graduate of
Austin College in Sherman and attended Texas Tech University. He served in
the Army during World War II under the command of Gen. George Patton. He retired in 1972 from the teaching profession with his latest employment at St
Joseph's Academy (today’s St Mary’s Catholic School), in Sherman. He was
a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Knights of Columbus and St. Mary's
Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother
John E. Arnold (1915). Survivors are a son, Michael Arnold of Austin,
Texas; daughters, Mrs. Anne Hudson of New York City and Mrs., Susan Shopher of
Irving, Texas; one sister, Mrs. Teresa Stuebinger of Sherman; and three
grandchildren. Rosary was recited by St. Mary's Catholic Church parishioner, Mr.
Joseph Engle at Waldo Funeral Home, Sherman. Reverend
Michael T. Flanagan, pastor of St Mary's, celebrated Mass of Christian burial at
the church. Pallbearers were Logan Hall, Lewis Hall, Joe Fesperman, Rev.
O.R. Pleasant and Merrill Kimbrough.
John H Arnold 12 November 1882 -
24 January 1966 Mr. Arnold was
born in Grand Chain, Illinois. He died in Sherman, Texas. He came to
Sherman from Illinois in 1900 and married Miss Jennie Mae Gill on 6 November
1904 in Sherman. Mr. Arnold once wrote a sports column, "Down the Alley"
for the old Sherman Register, and he operated a movie time at one time. For the
past 30 years, he operated a wholesale meat shop. He was a member of St.
Mary's Catholic Church, and a charter member of the Knights of
Columbus in Sherman. He served as Grand Knight and District Deputy. He is
survived by his wife of the home; one son, Bill Arnold of Sherman; one daughter,
Mrs. Teresa Stuebinger of Sherman; four grandchildren and two great
grandchildren. Rosary was recited at Dannel Funeral Home. Mass of Christian
Burial was celebrated by Rev. John B. Duesman at St. Mary's. Pallbearers
were Logan Hall, Pete Gregory, Virgil Inman, Syl Korioth, Henry Mexia, Adrian
O'Hanlon. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Knights of Columbus.
An obituary appeared on the local newspaper, Herald Democrat, Sherman on 25 January 1966,
page 8.
