Dr. Anthony Alvarez
24 April 1929 - 14 January 2009

Dr. Alvarez was born in El Paso, Texas the son of Anthony Alvarez, Sr. and Carolina Irigoyen de Alvarez.
Anthony grew up in El Paso and attended El Paso High School graduating in 1947.
He earned a Bachelor's Degree from Texas Western College (now University of Texas at El Paso) in 1951. He then attended Southern College of Optometry from which he graduated in June of 1954.
He served his country from 1954 to 1964 in the U.S. Army, Medical Branch in Europe. After completing his duty his went into the practice of Optometry and was active in his chosen career until February of 2008.
He spoke four languages English, Spanish, French and a little Portuguese. He was always cheerful and optimistic, and enjoyed his life to the fullest and loved traveling to different parts of the world and exploring different cultures and enhancing his knowledge about eye care. He greatly enjoyed eating food from different parts of the world and sharing those experiences with family and friends.
Anthony was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sherman. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
Anthony was preceded in death by his mother and father.
Left to cherish his memories he is survived by a brother Frank E. Alvarez, Sr., and wife Jackie of Sherman; two nephews Frank Alvarez, Jr. and wife Chi Wei of Austin and Marc Alvarez and wife Laurie of Sherman; three nieces Kim Goodman and husband Leon; Penny Keller and husband George of Russellville, Arkansas and Cindy Wilkerson and husband Kenny of Sherman; and 11 grand nephews and nieces.
A rosary was recited by Deacon John LeBlanc, St. Mary's Catholic Parish at Dannel Funeral Home.
Mass of Christian burial was held at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sherman, Reverend Jeremy Myers, pastor of the church presiding, assisted by Deacon Albert Miller.



David Jeffrey Alvarez
23 January 1968 - 6 November 1984


David was born on 23 January 1968 in El Paso, Texas the son of Frank E. and Jackie (Rose) Alvarez. David was killed instantly on 11 November 1984 when his bicycle was struck by a tractor-trailer rig at a Highway 75 exit in Sherman, Texas.
Alvarez was a Sherman resident for 15 months prior to the accident. He attended Rusk Jr. High School in El Paso and Stephen F. Austin High School in Amarillo, Texas. An honor student, David was employed at McDonald's and was a member of the McDonald's basketball team.
He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Sherman.
Surviving were his parents; brothers, Frank E. Jr. and Marc A. Alvarez of Sherman; three sisters, Kimberly, Penny and Cindy Alvarez, all of Sherman; and grandparents, Mrs. C. S. Alvarez and Mrs. Jack E. Rose, both of El Paso.
The rosary was recited at the Dannel Funeral Home Chapel.
Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Mary's Catholic Church, the Reverend John Fowler officiating.
