The Whitewright Sun Thursday, April 1, 1937 pg. 1 CHILD DIES FROM BITE OF MAD DOG Ruby Aline Simpson, 6, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.E. Simpson of the Pilot Grove community, southwest of Whitewright, died last Thursday morning in a Sherman hospital from the effects of a mad dog bite February 18. The child, bitten on the face, was given the serum after examination proved the stray dog had rabies, and continued to attend school until she became ill a few days before she died. Funeral services were held at Van Alstyne Friday. The child is survived by her parents; three brothers, Gerald, Ray and J.B. Simpson; a sister, Wande Lee Simpson; and her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Auten of Jameson and Mr. and Mrs. W.C. Simpson of Pilot Grove. The dog is reported to have knocked the child down and bitten her twice on the face. It was chased for several miles and killed at a point near Nobility.
