Gladys Marie Nelson 23 September 1924 - 15 May 2007 Herald Democrat Thursday May 17, 2007 A12 Services for Gladys Marie Nelson, 82, lifelong resident of Grayson County who passed away on Tuesday, May 15, 2007, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 18, 2007 at Dannel Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Sadler, Texas. Arrangements are under the direction of Dannel Funeral Home. Mrs. Nelson was born on September 23, 1924, the daughter of Roy E. Carney and Oleny Cranford Carney in Collinsville, Texas. In 1942 she married Marion Alfred McCollum in Durant, Oklahoma. Mr. McCollum preceded her in death. She married Jackie Paul Nelson in 1958 in Sherman, Texas. Gladys was a well known waitress in Sherman, working for the Travis Street Lunch Room, May's Pharmacy, Dixie Drug, White Pig, Juicy Pig and Main Street Cafe in Denison, and everyone loved her. She was also a line technician for Texas Instruments and retired after 30 years of service. She was a member of Pathway Church of God in Sherman. She was preceded in death by her son, Dennis McCollum; three great-grandsons and her mother and father, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Carney of Sherman. Gladys is survived by her children: Ronald McCollum and wife, Carol of Sherman, Mickey McCollum and wife, Bobby of Sherman, Patricia Williams and husband, Tony of Sherman, Darrell Nelson of Howe, Sharron Howse and husband, Bubba of Hondo, Texas and Jackie Wayne Nelson of Van Alstyne; 18 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren; brother, Roy Carney Jr. and wife of Sherman; sisters, Kathy Merrill of Sherman, Betty Bridges of Van Alstyne and Peggy Harmon and Husband, Jackie of Sherman; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 17, 2007 from 7 until 8 p.m. at Dannel Funeral Home.
