Cowan 19 July 1891 - 16 January 1982 Dallas Morning News November 16, 1940 Grayson County Man Found Dead on Farm Sherman, Texas, Nov. 15 - Lemuel Cowan, 56, was found dead by his wife near a small barn 100 yards west of his farm home in the Basin Springs community, northwest of Sherman. Justice of the Peace C.L. Simpson of Whitesboro returned a verdict of suicide, saying there was a bullet wound in his head, acid burns about his mouth and a rifle and a drinking glass near by. He was believed to have been dead three or four hours. Surviving besides his wife are three sons, M.C. Cowan of Galveston; James Cowan of Burkburnett; and Gene Cowan, at home; three sisters, Mrs. Susie Richardson of Pauls Valley, Okla.; Mrs. Icie Dutton of Sherman and Mrs. Mollie Thompson of Sadler; a half sister, Mrs. R.C. Kirk of Sadler; five brothers, Pitt Cowan of Littlefield, Louis Cowan of Waco, S.C. Cowan of Sadler, W.R. Cowan of Sadler and O. Cowan, at home.
