Calvin Crow 28 February 1924 - 7 July 2008 The Herald Democrat July 9, 2008 Graveside services for Calvin C. Crow of Sherman, 84 year-old retired barber who died Monday, July 7, 2008 at Texoma Healthcare Center, were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 10, 2008 at Rose Hill Cemetery in Bells. Rev. Bill Lee, Church of God minister of Sherman, officiated. An honor guard from Sheppard Air Force Base Honors Detail conducted military graveside honors. Arrangements were under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home. Calvin was born February 28, 1924 in Bonham to Olen and Lorena Crow. He attended school in Borger, Texas and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, where he was stationed in Japan. While serving in the military from January 1943 to December 1945 he was active in the 475th Bomb Squadron and saw action in numerous air offensive campaigns. He married Margaret Larkin and had one child. Calvin opened Crow's Barber Shop in 1951 and continued to cut hair in this area for three generations. He was known for his "flat top" hair cuts and retired in approximately 2001 after more than 50 years in the business. He also was very involved in drag racing and has won several trophies over the years. He was very fond of his 1940 model Ford coupe. He was a member of the Travis Masonic Lodge, a 32nd degree Mason, and a lifetime member of the Sherman VFW Post 2772. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and customers. Survivors include his daughter, Gina Gribbens of Atlanta, Georgia; his sister, Dorothy Harp of Sherman; grandchildren, Justin and Chelsie; and one great-grandchild. He is also survived by a nephew, Larry Harp; several cousins and a very special friend, Bud Newman. He was preceded in death by his parents and a special friend, Jean Wood.
