Thomas Michael Shipp 11 September 1945 - 30 June 2010 The Herald Democrat July 2, 2010 SHERMAN - Thomas Michael "Mike" Shipp, 64, of Sherman passed away Wednesday, June, 30, 2010 in Savoy after a long battle with cancer. Born September 11, 1945 in Durant, Oklahoma to Bess Lee (Bootes-Shipp) Simpson and Thomas Newton Shipp Jr. of Sherman, the youngest of two children. Baptized in March of 1948 at the Travis Street Methodist Church, he attended grade school in Sherman and graduated from Putnam City High School in Putnam City, Oklahoma in 1963. He attended Oklahoma State University prior to enlisting. He served as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force at Tinker AFB in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He married Linda Mae King in February of 1975 and returned to Sherman to work for the Tom Shipp Co. He later worked for Love Monument Co., owned and operated Concrete and Steel, and worked for the Fishel Co. until his retirement in 2005. Mike loved nothing more than to be with family and friends and would often surround himself with both while cooking up his latest cowboy-style dish, telling stories of his childhood and selling "penny" pocket knives. He had quite the passion for construction and concrete and leaves behind thousands of miles of both. A man of strong conviction and faith, he often shared and studied the word of God. He also was a member of the Travis Masonic Lodge. Surviving are his wife; daughter, Suzanne Michail (Shipp) Adkins and husband, Steve, of East Post Oak; sons, Thomas (Tommy) Newton Shipp III; Jacob Jeremiah Shipp; and Joshua Caleb Shipp, all of Sherman; grandchildren, Tessa and Cheyenne Shipp, Maci and Dyllon Adkins and Michael Shipp; brother, Gary Wayne Shipp and wife, Barbara, of The Colony; sister, Gwendolyn Foster; and 6 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and stepfather, Larry Martin Simpson. Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 2010 at Rose Hill Cemetery in Bells, conducted by Rev. Lowell Howard of the Cowboy Church of Savoy. Services were conducted by Mullican-Little Funeral Home of Bells/ Savoy.
