ATTEMPTED SUICIDE
An
Irishman made his appearance in one of our
drug stores Wednesday
morning and demanded 25c worth of arsenic.
The unsuspecting clerk
promptly weighed out the required amount
and handed it to his customer,
who at once seized the paper, opened it
and conveyed it to his mouth
for the purpose of swallowing its
contents, but the horror-stricken
clerk at once jumped forward and succeeded
in knocking the paper from
his hand. The would-be suicide was
very angry at these
proceedings and roundly abused the clerk.
He said that this was a
free country, and that anybody had a right
to kill himself when he
thought proper. It was his wish to
become an angel, and he
thought it was a scandalous outrage that
he should be prevented from
carrying his design into effect. The
man, apparently a railroad
hand, was considerably under the influence
of liquor, which explains
his queer conduct.
