LUNACY CASES

TWO LUNACY CASES ON TRIAL TODAY

An Unfortunate Mother and an Epileptic

The county judge's room was the scene of two lunacy cases this morning.
The first case called for trial was that of

Mrs. M. E. Geddy,
the evidence in whose case was to the effect that she had been laboring under mental derangement since the birth of a child not many months since.  She is not violent and has never tried to inflict bodily injury on any one, not even the child, whose existence she seems to have nearly forgotten. There are, however, lucid intervals when she recognized it as her own flesh and blood, and, for the time being, almost idolizes it. She has also made several endeavors to run away from her home in Denison. She was found guilty as charged and was removed to the care of her relatives, who made a good sufficient bond for her safe keeping. The necessity of the developments attended upon the trial were deeply regretted by the family.  The next case called was that of

John Hughes,
of Ida, also this county, who was arraigned on the charge of lunacy. The facts in this case as developed in the short trial were that the defendant had for a long time been a victim of epilepsy in a confirmed stage and little by little it has developed into insanity and while his people have never been harmed by him in the least they are suffering uneasiness all the time. He was also found guilty as charged, and remanded to the care of his people who entered into a bond for his detention. He's described as having been a quiet and agreeable young man until this sad malady overtook him.
