 On
July 14, 1920, Mrs. Tennie Morris shot and
killed Mrs. Leater "Lela"
Smothers Farrar on the corner of Main Street
and Rusk Avenue. On March
1, 1921, a Denison taxi driver testified at
Mrs. Morris' trial that the
victim had a "bad reputation." A jury of 12
men deliberated for less
than an hour before acquitting the defendant
on grounds of "unwritten
law."
Mrs. Morris was still living with her husband when she died in California, 36 years after the shooting.  This article says her name is Liney but it was Tennie
