Dorchester Farmer Killed By His Wife.
Sherman, March 17--Charles Hefley, about 45
years old, Dorchester farmer and member of a
prominent family in that community, was shot
and killed at his home a quarter of a mile
southwest of Dorchester Saturday morning.
Justice of the Peace J N Phillips, who held
an inquest, rendered a decision in which it
was found that Hefley came to his death by
bullets inflicted by his wife, Mrs
Anna Hefley who is about 42 years old. Mrs
Hefley has been ill and under the care of a
physician for some time, was not brought to
Sherman on account of the weather.
Arrangements have been completed for holding
her under a $5000. bond to await a
preliminary hearing, it is said. The
examining trial has been set for Saturday,
March 20.
Officers called to the scene of the killing
found the body, dressed in nightclothes,
lying on the right side between two beds,
used by Mrs Hefley and two of their
children. Hefley occupied another room, it
was said.
Mrs Hefley was hysterical and unable to
discuss the affair.
Between two and three months ago Mr Hefley
was arrested at his home by a deputy sheriff
on a charge of drunkenness.
Mr. Hefley is survived by his widow and five
daughters the youngest is 10 years old and
by his father, G W Hefley, Dorchester.
