May 6- Intelligence just received here from
Gordonville, in this county, gives a few meagre
particulars of the murder of Constable Dallas
Hodges. He was an active and efficient officer
and performed his duty fearlessly. He has been
making arrests in the Nation lately, and has
about emptied Thief Neck of its inhabitants. His
murderers were parties from the nation. It seems
that he noticed two men riding through the town
of Gordonville, and that he called them to stop,
which they did, and waited for him to come up.
They were about ten feet apart, when 'they',
halted, he passed the first, not noticing that
he was armed and went on to the second and
informed him of his official capacity, when the
party behind fired on him, the ball piercing the
brain over the right eye. The other then fired,
the ball passing through his body. They put
spurs to their horses, the hindmost man riding
over him and firing again as he passed. He never
spoke and was dead when reached. Pursuit was
given at once, but with what results has not
learned.
