his name appears as Albert Jordon
and also as Riley Jordan in various
articles.

Grayson County Constable Slain
Howe, Tex.,
Constable Albert Jordan was shot and
killed by a man he was trying to disarm,
a charge from a shotgun taking effect on
this right shoulder and neck. Jim Black
was arrested and taken to Sherman in
charge of the sheriff and deputies.

Riley Jordan Deputy Marshal of Howe,
Texas, a small town nine miles south of
here, was killed about 7:30 tonight
while trying to make an arrest. Great
excitement prevails. Officers have left
here for that point to prevent a
lynching.

Walter Cross was charged with the murder
of Riley Jordan, assistant city marshal
of Howe, was today brought before
Justice Towers for examining trail. He
waived examination and was admitted to
bail in the sum of $500, which he
readily gave and was released.
John Watkins another of the parties
arrested charged with the murder of
Jordan, waived examination and was
remanded to the custody of the officers
without bail. Jim Black, whom the
coroner's finding held responsible for
firing the fatal shot, and hwo is the
third party charged, did not appear in
court.

Conduct Funeral Services
Rev J H Bone went to Howe Saturday to
conduct the funeral services of Riley
Jordan, a local police officer who was
shot and killed there last Friday, about
7 o'clock. It seems that it is not known
who committed the deed.

Van Alstyne, Tex., March 23-An inquest
was held at Howe by Squire McDonough
Saturday over the remains of Albert
Jordon. The verdict was that he came to
his death by a gunshot wound from a
shotgun in the hand of Jim Black who is
now in jail.

today commuted to life imprisonment in
the State Penitentiary the death
sentence of Jim Black, who was to be
hanged at Sherman on August 26 for the
murder of Albert Jordan. The crime
committed near Howe, Grayson County,
more than a year ago.
