The Orphan Train

FORGOTTEN
by Evan Moore

Between 1854 and 1929, approximately 200,000 youngsters rode the Orphan Trains from the East to the growing frontier. Some were adopted, some indentured and some simply taken in. Some came to call themselves 'the white slaves' of America.

A photo of unknown origin taken around 1900 shows orphans on the Atchison,
Topeka 7 Santa Fe Railway.
