COUNTY WOMAN MARKS 100th Birthday
Junnction, March 18 (SC) - Mrs. S.B. White, known to her friends here as "Granny," will observe her 100th birthday anniversary Saturday as a family reunion in the W.W. Morgan home. Mrs. White's children, all of whom are living, and her grandchildren will be present. Mrs. White, nee Dicy Jane Carpenter, was born in Mason County, Illinois, March 19, 1849, and came to Texas with her parents, who settled near the site of the present town of Sherman in in 1860. In 1873 she was married Samuel Bogard White and they reared a family of four boys and three girls. Their other descendants now number 23 grandchildren, 54 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren. The sons are Frank, John and George of Menard and Lem of Corpus Christi. The daughters are Mrs. W.W. Morgan, with whom the pioneer mother makes her home; Mrs. Mary Baker also of Junction; and Mrs. Alice Atkinson, Menard. Three of the grandchildren, Mrs. Hayden Sales, O.E. Morgan and Sam Morgan live here. MRS. WHITE WILL OBSERVE 100th ANNIVERSARY Mrs. DIcy Jane White is going to set some new records here Saturday. She will observe her on hundredth birthday anniversary with all of her children and grandchildren meeting for a family reunion in her honor in the W.W. Morgan home. Mrs. White, nee Dicy Jane Carpenter, was born in Mason County, Illinois, March 19, 1849, and came to Texas with her parents who settled in 1860 near the site of the town of Sherman, which was built later. Her father died of illness while in the service of his country during the Civil War. Three of her brothers also served in the same war. Mrs. White, familiarly known as "Granny" to her many friends has vivid recollections of Indian raids and the settling expansion of the country in spite of the "red man." She will have witnessed a full 100 years of progress notwithstanding five wars, namely the Civil War, War with Mexico, Spanish American War, World War I, and World War II. In 1873 she was married to the late Samuel Bogard White and they reared a family of 7 children, 4 boys and 3 girls, a ll of whom are living and plan to be here Sunday. The sons are Frank, John and George White of Menard and Lem White of Corpus Christi. The daughters are Mrs. W.W. Morgan with whom the pioneer makes her home; Mrs. Mary Baker of Junction and Mrs. Alice Atkinson of Menard. Among her we grandchildren are Mrs. Hayden Sales, O.E. "Scrap" Morgan and Sam Morgan of Junction. She also has 54 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren Contributor's Note: Dicy Jane married Samuel Bogard White, who was from Weston in Collin County, just south of there. Once they wed, they both migrated all over the state picking vegetables and cotton. They lived the rest of their life in Menard.
