HUNDREDS VISIT "MA" MANGRUM ON HER 105th
BIRTHDAY
With
her 105th birthday celebrating behind her,
Mrs. Mandy A. Mangrum can
now take time to look at the more than one
thousand cards and letters
she received during the past ten days.
Up to Wednesday morning
not all the cards had been counted, but Mrs.
Mangrum's son, T.A.
Mangrum, had counted over 900 with a large
stack still to count.
Although
Tuesday was her birthday, Mrs. Mangrum's
relatives and friends staged
her birthday party on Sunday in order that
more of them could be
present. Twenty-six relatives were
present for the Sunday dinner,
with many other relatives and friends
calling during the day. She
received numerous gifts from friends here
and elsewhere. Wagner's
Greenhouse of Denison sent her a beautiful
corsage, Mrs. Wagner saying
she didn't know Mrs. Mangrum but that
anybody who could live to be 105
is certainly entitled to some attention even
from strangers.
There were many other flowers sent by
friends. Charley
Lewis of Slaton, an old friend of the family
who always goes by to
see"Ma" Mangrum when in Whitewright, wired
her some flowers.
There were other gifts, too, to
contribute to her happiness.
Mrs.
Mangrum is the oldest resident of Grayson
county, and among the oldest
in the state and nation. During the
last few weeks she has become
very feeble and spends most of her time in
bed.
Among the relatives
present for the birthday party on Sunday

and daughter, Dorothy Jean, Mr. and Mrs.
Jack Baxter and son Paul and

Prairie; Miss Una Mae Mangrum of

Loren Mangrum and children,

Mrs. Mattie Knox of Oklahoma
City; Miss Exa Rae Graves of Los Angeles,
Calif.; Mr. and Mrs. J.E.
Mangrum and A.T. Mangrum of Whitewright.

grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and
one great-great-grandchild
present
