The Herald Democrat August 29, 2013 Pottsboro - Herschell Vaughn Jones, 86, died Tuesday at his home in Pottsboro, Texas. H.V. Jones is survived by his wife, Maxine; three children, Donna Carpenter, George Jones and Jennifer Jones Bailey. He also leaves behind six grandchildren, Josh Jones, Heather Jones, Alecia Bailey Taylor, Casey Bailey, Chris Carpenter and Kim Carpenter. He had five great-grandchildren. Herschell was a veteran of World War II, where he served in the Navy as a seaman on board the USS Essex. He grew up in Hagerman, the third child and only son of George and Fannie Shires Jones. He was a longtime employee, and retired truck driver, for Pillsbury in Denison. He was an active and proud member of the American Legion Lakesite Post 231. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Denison Elks Lodge 238 and a member of the Masonic Lodge of Denison. He loved being on Lake Texoma and spent his retirement living on the lake. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. this Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013 at Herschell's home, at the American Legion Lakesite because he loved being on the lake so much. He will be laid to rest at Preston Bend Cemetery in Pottsboro at a later time by the family. Arrangements are under the direction of Johnson-Moore Funeral Home.
