PRESTON BEND PIONEER, MRS. MARY HELVEY, DIES Denison, Texas, August 2 - Mrs. Mary Frances Helvey, 84, pioneer resident of the Preston Bend community where she had lived 70 years, died Thursday in her house that stands on a neck of land that will be surrounded on 3 sides by waters of the Denison dam reservoir. In early days Mrs. Helvey used to sit on her front porch and see Indians crossing Red River at Baer's Ferry and trail down the path to the trading post of the then famous Col. Holland Coffey. Funeral services were held Friday at the Preston Bend Methodist Church, said to be the oldest church in this part of the country. Surviving relatives include two sons, D.L. Jackson and E.P. Jackson of Preston Bend; three daughters, Mrs. Stella Brannan and Miss Edna Jackson of Preston; and Mrs. Cora Van Antwerp of Ft. Worth; a sister, Mrs. Lydia O'Dell of Pottsboro; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchilden; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
