Brewer 7 October 1896 - 13 June 1958 The Denison Press Friday, June 20, 1958 pg. 6 Funeral services for John Gibson Brewer, 62, of Rt. 3, Denison, were held at Johnson-Moore Funeral Home Saturday, June 14, with the Rev. George Walker officiating. Interment was in Preston Bend Cemetery. Mr. Brewer, a retired carpenter, died Friday, June 13 at Madonna Hospital after eleven days of illness. Deceased was born in the Preston Bend community October 7, 1896, the son of Mr. and Mrs. C.B. Brewer. He attended Pottsboro schools and was married in Pottsboro September 13, 1913 to Martha Whitley. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church. Survivors are his widow, Mrs. John Gibson Brewer, Rt. 1; a daughter, Vivian Brewer, Norman, Oklahoma; a brother, Frank Brewer, Dallas; one sister, Mrs. Minnie Whitely, Denison; one grandchild, Mrs. O.J. Finke, Denison; and two great-grandchildren. The Denison Press Friday, February 27, 1959 pg. 4 Mrs. John G. Brewer, 69, died Sunday, February 22 at 12:45 p.m. at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. O.J. Fink in the Hyde Park community. She had been ill several months. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Johnson-Moore Chapel with the Rev. Carl Bilderback officiating. Burial was in Preston Bend Cemetery with Johnson-Moore in charge. Mrs. Brewer was born in Toys, Texas, July 12, 1889, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Whitley. She attended school in Toys and was married at Pottsboro September 13, 1913, to John Gibson Brewer, carpenter. Mr. Brewer died June 13, 1958. They lived in Preston Bend 20 years before coming to Denison. She was a Methodist. Survivors are one daughter, Miss Vivian Brewer, Norman, Oklahoma; three brothers, Luther S. Whitley and Emmett Whitley of California, and George Whitley of Bernice, Oklahoma; a sister, Mrs. Nannie Reynolds of Madill, Oklahoma; the granddaughter, Mrs. Fink and two great-grandchildren.
