PRESTON BEND MAN KILLED BY TRAIN
John Jackson and Y.D. Myers of Woodville, Oklahoma Die in Crash

John Jackson, born in 1859, a farmer and substantial citizen of Preston Bend community, was instantly killed at Granger, Texas Wednesday afternoon at 3:30 when the truck in which he was riding was hit by a Katy passenger train.  Also Y.D. Myers of Woodville, Oklahoma, who was with Mr. Jackson, was killed at the same time.  Information from the Jackson home at Preston Bend Thursday morning is to the effect that Mr. Jackson and his traveling companion, were making an overland trip to Corpus Christi and other port towns, intending to be away for some days on a fishing trip.  Both of the men were lovers of outdoor and camp life.  They left home Monday on the trip.  From papers in the pockets of Jackson, his home address was learned and relatives informted of the tragedy.  The accident happened while the truck was making a crossing three miles north of Granger, the truck being completely wrecked.  Relatives learned that the place where the two men were killed was in a level and open place and they are at a loss to understand why the train was not noticed.  Another peculiar thing is that the bodies of the two men bear no cuts or bruises made by the train, except a small scratch on the nose of Mr. Myers.  The neck of Mr. Jackson was broken, but there was not one scratch on his body.  One body was picked up on the north side of the track and one on the south side.  Mr. Jackson was survived by his widow and two sons and one daughter.  He moved to Preston Bend from Woodville, Oklahoma.  There was a double funeral for the two men at the Preston cemetery directed by John L. Swank and attended by hundreds from both sides of the river - Woodville, Oklahoma and Preston Bend.

BURY CRASH VICTIMS AT DOUBLE FUNERAL
Men Killed at Granger Buried at Preston

The little sister community of Preston Bend witnessed a rare and sad experience Friday afternoon when a double funeral was held for John Jackson and T.D. Meyers, companions for years, and who came to an untimely end at the same time when the truck they were driving was hit by a Katy passenger train at Granger last Wednesday.  Both of them were laid to rest in the Preston cemetery, and hundreds of people from Woodville, Oklahoma, the home of Mr. Meyers, joined friends on the Texas side to pay their last respects, both of the deceased being substantial citizens of their communities.  John L. Swank received the bodies on arriving from Granger and directed the double funeral.
The men left their homes last Monday travling overland in a truck for the Gul Coast, for a fishing trip.  When about 3 miles north of Granger, while crossing a Katy track, their truck was hit and both instantly killed.
Relatives state that it was learned that the place where the two men were killed was in a level and open place and they are at a loss to understand why the train was not noticed.  Also another peculiar thing is the fact that the bodies of the two men bear no cuts or bruises made by the train, saving a small scratch on the nose of Mr. Meyers.  The neck of Mr. Jackson was broken, but there was not a scratch on his body.  One body was picked up on the north side of the track and one on the south side.
