Funeral services for Nita Kay Austin, 65, Sherman will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, November 26, 2012, at the Fairview Baptist Church in Sherman. Rev. James Moore will officiate and burial will follow at the Pilot Grove Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Waldo Funeral Home.
Kay passed away on Friday, November 23, 2012, in Sherman after a five year battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her family.
She was born on June 18, 1947, in Sherman, Texas the daughter of Jesse H. Points Sr. and Bonnie Mae Scott. Kay graduated from Sherman High School in 1965. She married Steven James Austin in July 1966 after they were introduced
by her cousin, Charlotte. After traveling with his job in the Air Force to places like Germany and North Carolina, they returned to Sherman. She worked for the City of Sherman in the Planning and Zoning Department for many years while also making a wonderful home for Steve and her two sons. Kay loved music, enjoyed playing the piano, and saw her appreciation of music and art reflected in the performances of her sons and grandchildren. She also passed on her strong faith as demonstrated by her active membership at Fairview Baptist Church. Kay loved to crochet and practiced many other handcrafts, and she was an excellent seamstress.
Kay is survived by her husband Steven, two sons, Joel Austin and wife Meg of Richardson, Texas, and Glenn Austin and wife Lisa of Prosper, Texas, three grandchildren, Brian, James and Sydnie Austin, one brother, Jesse H. Points Jr. and
wife Susan of McKinney, Texas, and one sister, Ninva Tuley and husband Carl of Decatur, Texas. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Kay was preceded in death by her parents.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Fairview Baptist Church Youth Fund.
