Thursday, May 24, 1962 pg.1 Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at Earnheart funeral chapel for Mrs. Alice Pauline Ashinhurst Smith, 35, conducted by Rev. Howard McSpedden and Rev. Bill Jackson, Baptist ministers. Burial was in Pilot Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers were K.A. Jinkins, Wheeler Russell, Elmer Brown, Charles Cole, W.A. Smart and Miles Philley. Mrs. Smith was shot with a .22-caliber rifle by her husband, Billy Bob Smith, last Thursday morning and died a short time later. The shooting occurred in a bedroom at the home of Mrs. Smith's parents, Mr. and Mrs. James G. Ashinhurst, Pilot Grove. Mrs. Smith was born March 4, 1927, at Pilot Grove. She married Smith September 5, 1961. She was a member of the Baptist Church, and had been employed by Levi Strauss Co. in Denison. Survivors include her parents; a daughter by a former marriage, Delores Hazelwood, student in the Whitewright schools; and a brother, Cecil Ashinhurst of Sherman.
