Thursday, July 13, 1944 pg. 5 Mrs. Thad Rhoades [sic], 88, long time resident of the Pilot Grove community, died Tuesday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Gus Holmes of Trenton, after declining health of more than a year. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the home of Mrs. Holmes, conducted by Rev. E.B. Jackson. Interment was at the Pilot Grove Cemetery, directed by Earnheart. Altha [sic] Jane Davis was born February 29, 1856 in Clinton County, Kentucky, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.W. Davis. She was married in 1875 to Thad Rhoades [sic] and had she lived until August 15, the couple would have celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary. Coming to Texas 57 years ago, they settled in the Pilot Grove community where they lived on the same farm until 4 years ago when they moved to Trenton. Mr. Rhoades is now 92 years of age. Surviving are her husband; 9 children, Mrs. Holmes of Trenton; Mrs. John Washburn of Bells; Mrs. J.E. Edwards and Mrs. Abe Perdue of Slaton; Mrs. R. Cochran of Engelwood, Tennessee; Mrs. Florence Kilgore of Pilot Grove; Charles Rhoades of Corsicana; Roland Rhoades of Wilson; and Lloyd Rhoades of Denison; 26 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
