KILLED BY TRAIN
Joe D. Garland, a pioneer citizen of the Pilot Grover community, was run over and killed by a passenger train at Trenton Wednesday afternoon.  Mr. Garland had gone to Trenton to view the damage done there by the tornado about 1:30 Wednesday morning.  He was walking on the track and failed to hear the approaching train.
Mr. Garland was about 63 years old and is survived by his wife and several sons and daughters, Brice Garland of this city being one of them.    He was a good citizen and neighbor and highly respected by all who knew him.
At the time this was written, Wednesday afternoon, announcement of funeral arrangements had not been made.

PILOT GROVE NEWS
The funeral of Uncle Joe Garland was held at the Baptist church last Thursday afternoon.  His sisters from near Ft. Worth did not arrive until after the funeral.  They are spending a few days here with the bereaved relatives.

Funeral services for Mrs. J.D. Garland, formerly of Grayson County, who died Friday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. M.R. Gramling, in Dallas, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Pilot Grove Baptist Church, Rev. Howard McSpedden of Pilot Grove officiating.  Burial was in the Pilot Grove Cemetery, beside the body of her husband, who died 20 years ago.
Mrs. Garland had been ill about three months.  She had lived with her daughter in Dallas since the death of her husband.  The couple had farmed in the Pilot Grove community for 43 year, after moving to Grayson County in 1877 from Arkansas.  Mrs. Garland was the former Frances Wolfe of Lead Hill, Arkansas.
Mrs. Garland is survived by five sons, S.F. Garland of Pilot Grove, John Garland of Van Alstyne, B.H. and L.T. Garland of Slaton, and D.W. Garland of Fort Worth; one daughter, Mrs. M.R. Gramling of Dallas; twenty-eight grandchildren; twenty-eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
