Mabel Katherine [sic] Reeves
Mabel Katherine[sic] Reeves, 15 years old, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe L. Reeves, residing 3 miles southwest of Whitewright, died Friday, February 6, 1931, at the family residence, the cause of her death being blood poisoning complicated with pneumonia.  The funeral was held from the Bethel Baptist Church Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by Rev.T.B. Randolph, the pastor, who was assisted by Rev. J.A. Henderson, Baptist minister.  Burial was at Pilot Grove cemetery.
Mabel Katherine[sic] was born February 5, 1916.  She was converted and joined the Bethel Baptist Church at the age of eleven, becoming a faithful worker in the church, Sunday school, and B.Y.P.U.  On February 1 she stood in the choir of her church and led the song services, and also sang a solo, "He Lives on High."  The following Sunday she lay in her casket in the same church, surrounded by a host of sorrowing relatives and friends.  She was a freshman in Whitewright high school, standing high in scholarship attainments and loved alike by teachers and classmates.
We do not know why such a young, pure and faithful girl as she was should be taken from us, but we do know that "God doeth all things for the best," and that some day we shall understand, and heaven will be nearer and dearer because Katherine [sic] is there among the angels, awaiting the coming of friends and loved ones left behind.
She is survived by her parents and the following brothers and sisters: Erena, Wesley, Albert, Margaret, Mary Lena, Velma, Joe, Leon, Ruth and little Glenn; also a brother-in-law, Ray McCord, with a host of other loved ones to mourn her loss.  But our loss is only heaven's gain.  God's richest blessings be with the loved ones in the home from which she was taken,. and may they look up and say,"God's will be done," for Katherine [sic] has just gone to be with Jesus. - - -Written by one who loved her
