The Whitewright Sun Friday, January 28, 1921 pg. 6, 8 Mrs. Elizabeth McDonald, wife of W.D. McDonald, died at her home near Merkel last Saturday afternoon. She was 77 years old and is survived by her husband and several children, one of whom, Mrs. John Williams, resides a few miles south of Whitewright. The decedent also has several other surviving relatives in this community, Mr. Joe Cameron of the Rose Hill community being a brother and Mrs. J.T. Roberts of this city a sister. The body arrived here Monday and was conveyed by hearse from Bells to the home of John Williams. Rev. I.E. Teague conducted funeral services at Bethel Church Tuesday morning following which the remains were laid to rest at Pilot Grove Cemetery. The McDonald family formerly owned and resided on a farm near Bethel, but about 12 years ago sold out and moved to west Texas. They were regarded as among the community's most substantial citizens, and the death of Mrs. McDonald brings to a close the life of an exceptionally good woman. CARD OF THANKS We wish to thank our many friends and neighbors for their kindness and assistance given us in any way when we lost our dear wife and mother, especially do we thank you for the beautiful flowers given in memory of our loved one. Although we cannot take each one by the hand and express our gratitude personally, we send you this message. May your reward be great on earth and greater still in heaven, is our prayer. W.D. McDonald and Children The Whitewright Sun Thursday, September 24, 1925 pg. 1 Rev. William Duncan McDonald, for many years a resident of the Pilot Grove community south of town, died at his home in Abilene last Friday morning. The remains were shipped here for interment at Pilot Grove Cemetery. Mr. McDonald was born in North Carolina December 20, 1835. He came to Texas soon after the war between the states and settled at Pilot Grove, where he made his home until he moved to Merkel in 1903. While he was a farmer by occupation, he found time to preach the Gospel, and in the pioneer days of this section went from place to place, preaching to the people. He was loved and honored by all who knew him and was a useful man to his community. The funeral service was held Sunday afternoon at the Bethel Baptist church. The service was conducted by Rev. J.M. Harder. Deceased is survived by the following children: Mrs. C.O. Bradley, Mrs. F.G. Bradley, and Mrs. G.J. King and G.H. McDonald of Abilene; S.R. McDonald, Brownfield; Mrs. W.A.
