Denison Mrs.
Martha A. Steele, 73 years old, a pioneer resident of Denison and widow
of C.H. Steele, died at her home 601 East Main street, Saturday night
at 9:30 o'clock. Death climaxed several months of illness. Born in Wabash county, Indiana, April 14, 1858, Mrs. Steele came to Denison 49 years ago and had since resided here. Her marriage to C.H. Steele was solemnized in Denison December 30,, 1884. Mr. Steele died 17 years ago. Mrs. Steele had been a member of the Methodist church since girlhood. She was widely known in Denison and adjoining areas. Surviving are 2 sons, Harry Steele of Denison and William G. Steele of Wichita Falls; 6 grandchildren and other relatives. A son and a daughter, Walter B. and Miss Anna Steele, preceded the mother to the grave. Funeral services were held Monday morning at 10 o'clock at the home with Rev. F.A. Crutchfield, pastor of Waples Memorial Methodist church and Rev. O.L. Shelton, pastor of the First Christian Church, officiating. Burial was in Oakwood Cemetery with Short-Murray funeral directors in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were P.L. Davis, Fred Finley, S.D. Brown, J.M. Wilson, R.K. Ownby, and H.E. McElroy.
