A FATAL ACCIDENT
Wednesday night, O.S. Williamson, a helper in the employ of the H. & T.C. railway, was killed in the north yards while cleaning out the ash pan of an engine,
At the time of the accident the engine was standing over the ash pit, while attempting to climb out he was caught under the wheels of the engine tank and received injuries which caused his death in a short time.
William Green, a very careful man, was handling the engine at the time.  From what the Gazetteer can learn no blame can be attached to Green.  The Gazetteer called on Green, and he said it is always customary to give notification when leaving the pit and displaying a torch.  It seems that Williamson was leaving the pit to procure a crow bar, that was his statement to Hostler Green.  The air was connected, but an engine will frequently settle a foot or so.  Mr. Green states that the night was very dark and that beyond the engine room nothing could be seen.  Pink Kirkland, a colored man, first heard Williamson cry out, "I am hurt."
The deceased has been a resident of Denison several years, with the Katy most of the time.  He had been in the employ of the Central about 4 months.  He was 29 years of age.  He has a brother who resides on East Morton street.
The deceased was buried Friday at Oakwood cemetery under the auspices of Mayflower Lodge No. 144, K. of P.
