The Denison Press Monday, January 20, 1941 pg. 1 DEATH ROLL John S. Summerhill, 73, died at 7:40 p.m. Sunday at his home, 1130 W. Hull street, from a two weeks seige of influenza. He had been a resident of Denison 25 years and had retired in 1922 from service with the Katy car department. Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning from the Church of Christ, Rev. Leland Alton officiating. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery, Denison Funeral Home directing. Mr. Summerhill was born March 7, 1867 as son of William and Betty Summerhill, at Florence, Alabama, where he was reared and graduated from a Normal School. He was married to Miss Madgie Sharp and following her death he was later married to Miss Ida Lanier, now deceased. He came to Denison from Alabama where he lived 49 years and was a member of the Church of Christ. Remains will be at the home until 9 a.m. Tuesday when they will be placed in the church and remain in state until funeral services at 10 a.m. Surviving are two sons, Floyd and Homer of Denison; three daughters, Miss Jessie Summerhill, Mrs. Annie Henshaw and Mrs. Clara Dean Martin, all of Denison; a brother, E.B. Summerhill of Florence, Alabama; a sister, Mrs. Annie Irons of Florence; and two grandsons, A.J. Henshaw and Billy John Martin of Denison. The Denison Press Monday, January 20, 1941 pg. 4 BRIEFS E.B.
