Sidney Pope Dead
One of the saddest deaths that has occurred in this community in years is the name of the young man at the head of this article.  Death is sad, but when it carries off a young man in the very flush of youth, it is a calamity that we can hardly be reconciled with.
Sidney Pope was born and raised east of the city.  He is the only living son of John Pope, one of the best known farmers in Grayson County.  About 18 months ago, Sidney left the farm with his young wife and located in Denison, accepting a position in the grocery house of Haven & Coleman.  He was last with W.H. Brazile, being connected with the delivery department.
Mr. Pope was a very energetic and trustworthy young man, enjoying the confidence and esteem of his employers.  Had he lived, he would have attained a high position in the business world.  Sidney Pope made a large circle of friends in Denison and was loved in the whole surrounding country.  His death strikes sadly on the hearts of those who had pictured for him such a bright future.  Another sad feature is that he leaves a young wife and two children to mourn his untimely end.  We will draw the curtain over the pathetic scenes that attended his death.  He was slowly dying for over two weeks with that loathsome disease, smallpox.  The heroism of his wife, who never faltered at his bedside, is one of the most touching examples of devotion that has ever occurred in Denison.  The remains were laid to rest in Oakwood.
