Denison Section 7 Ezra Clark Wooden 1864 - 1935 The Denison Press Monday, December 2, 1935 pg. 1 E. C. Wooden, Katy Engineer 43 Years, Dies Here Sunday E. C. Wooden, 71, connected with the Katy constantly for a period of 46 years, 43 of which he served as engineer, died at the Katy hospital at 11:55 p.m. Sunday, following a short illness. His residence was at 906 West Nelson. Funeral services are announced for Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the First Baptist church, the pastor, Rev. J. F. Murrell officiating. Taking part in the services also will be the Knights of Pythias and the B. of L. E., of which deceased was a member. Interment will be at Oakwood cemetery, with Short-Murray directing. Deceased was born August 3, 1864 his parents being Mr. and Mrs. M. A. Wooden of Stark county, Illinois In his boyhood days, he was personally acquainted with the boy who later became known to the world as Gen. John J. Pershing. His boyhood days were spent in Laclede, Missouri, where as one of the town's musicians, he played the harmonica in the serenader's band. As a boy of seventeen, he went to work for the section gang at Laclede, Illinois, for the B. & S. W. Later he went to the Wabash line and was soon on an engine, as engineer without first having to serve as a fireman. He came to Denison July 20, 1889 and accepted a position as fireman on the Katy, serving for a period of three years, when he was made an engineer. He has served in that capacity for 43 years. He is survived by four sons, Gus Wooden, Temple City, Col., James C., Denison and Jessie Lindley and Russell Lindley of Denison. Also a daughter, Dorothey Wooden of this city. One brother, Wm. Wooden, lives in this city, and another, John A. Wooden, lives at Cedar Rapids, Iowa. One sister, Mrs. Nettie Hor, lives at Moulton, Iowa. Other relatives also survive.
Dallas Morning News April 12, 1902 MORTUARY (Special to The News) WOODEN - Denison, Tex., April 11 - Mrs. Ella Wooden died yesterday at the Gordon home, a few miles east of the city. The cause of her death was consumption. She was 33 years old. The Sunday Gazetteer Sunday, April 8, 1906 Miss Geneva Wooden, aged 18 years, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ezra Wooden, died last Friday night at her home, No. 908 West Nelson street. The funeral was conducted Saturday from the Christian church. OAKWOOD CEMETERY
