Robert Callahan, son of our pioneer townsman, John R. Callahan, engineer on the Central, died a few days ago at the Sedalia hospital from the effects of an operation performed in an attempt to remove an internal abceess.  The deceased was born and raised in this city.  He was an exceptionally bright young man with a promising future before him.  For some time Rober has been an attache to the office of Mr. A. A. Krouse; general claim agent of the Katy, located in St. Louis.  The remains were brought to this city and the funeral took place from the home of Horace Alexander, on Gandy Street.  The interment was at Oakwood cemetery and the remains were followed to the grave by a large concourse of sympathizing friends.  As a tribute of respect a beautiful floral offering was contributed by his employers and office companions.  Mr. and Mrs. Callahan will receive the condolences of many friends.

The hand of affliction has been laid heavily upon Engineer Callahan and wife.  It was only a few months ago that they laid to rest a beloved son, and now another boy, James, who was shot and killed at Ennis, sleeps side and side with his brother over at Oakwood cemetery.  The remains of the murdered boy arrived here here Saturday from Ennis and were met at the depot by a number of sorrowing and sympathizing friends, who brought with them beautiful floral wreaths to deposit on the bier of the deceased.  The funeral cortege moved from the depot to the cemetery.  Mr. and Mrs. Callahan, who are old residents of Denison, have the sympathy of the entire community.

Death of Mrs. Callahan
The sad intelligence was received in the city Tuesday of the death of Mrs. Emma Callahan, wife of Engineer James R. Callahan, of the H & T.C. Railway.
The hand of affliction has fallen heavily on Engineer Callahan's household.  The devoted wife will sleep side by side with three sons who preceded her and a daughter.  Mrs. Callahan, who has been a resident of Ennis for the past three years, died of that prevalent scourge, pneumonia.  At the time of death she was aged about fifty years.
Mr. and Mrs. Callahan were married in Kansas City February 19, 1873.  They came to Denison in 1876, where they resided until they moved to Ennis in 1897.  Seven children blessed the union, five of whom were born in this city.  Mrs. Callahan was a consistent member of the Presbyterian church, and died firm in the consoling faith of the true christian.  She had recently experienced much sorrow, within the last year she had buried two children, promising young men.  Eleven months ago Robert L., twenty years of age, a clerk in the general office of the M. K. & T. at St. Louis, died in a hospital at Sedalia, and scarcely four months ago, James H., a year his junior, was cruelly murdered by a stranger without the least provocation.  She was in the broadest and most intense sense, a noble woman, a devoted and loyal mother, a good neighbor, a true friend.  These were the crowning excellencies of a most exalted and lovable character.  The deceased was the sister of Mrs. Horace Alexander of this city.
The remains arrived here Wednesday from Ennis and were taken to the Presbyterian Church where the funeral services were held.  A large concourse of friends and old neighbors were present to pay the last respects to the memory of one loved so much in life.
Mrs. Callahan leaves a husband and three children, one of whom is a little girl, one married daughter, and the other a son.
