Poff was in the prime of life, about 35 years of age, and leaves a wife and seven children - a son seventeen years old and a daughter fifteen. He was an active member of the M.E. Church and a prominent member of the Masonic order. He was one of our most enterprising and public spirited citizens, highly respected by all. His death is a severe loss to the community. The News extends its heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved family. MASONIC A special meeting of Lone Star Lodge No. 403, A.F. & A.M., will be held Sunday, Nov. 3d at 9 o'clock a.m. sharp, for the purpose of attending the funeral of our brother, A.J. Poff. All visiting brethren sojourning in the city are fraternally invited to attend. By the order of J.W. Jennings, W.M. J.A. Brenner, Sec'y Denison Daily News Sunday, May 14, 1876 pg. 5 George W. Poff, father of our fellow townsman, Capt. A.J. Poff, died Friday and was buried Saturday, Rev. Mr. Daughty performing the funeral services. Mr. Poff was, we believe, ninety-two years of age, and had been in our city but a few weeks. The Denison Daily Herald Wednesday, August 8, 1906 pg. 8 Mrs. J.A. Poff, aged seventy years, died at her home, No. 1302 West Main street, at 11:30 o'clock last night of heart disease after an illness of almost a year. She leaves four children to mourn her loss, her husband having died in 1878, and three children in 1891. Those living are J.A. Poff of Cleveland, Oklahoma; Mrs. Mary Blake of Sedalia, Missouri; O.C. Poff of this city; and Mrs. Sadie Mendell of Sherman, who has been at her mother's bedside during her late illness. The son and daughter at Cleveland and Sedalia have been notified of their mother's death and are expected here on the evening train. The deceased was one of Denison's oldest citizens, having come here with her husband from Richmond, Virginia, where she was born and reared. When they reached the city, the town consisted of a couple of stores and a few houses in the vicinity of lower Main. Soon after their arrival, Mr. and Mrs. Poff moved to the property on West Main street, and Mrs. Poff continued to reside there for the past thirty years. Before coming to this state, the deceased became a member of the Methodist church, South, and, as there was no church of that denomination in this city at that time, she was taken into the North church and remained a faithful member and worker throughout her declining years. All the arrangement for the funeral have not yet been completed, but it will take place some time tomorrow at Oakwood cemetery, where deceased's husband is buried. The services will be conducted at the residence by Rev. McGaha of the Methodist Church, North. The Denison Daily Herald Friday, August 10, 1906 pg. 3 CARD OF THANKS We desire to extend our heartfelt thanks to all the friends and neighbors who were so thoughtful and kind during the illness and death of our mother, Mrs. J.A. Poff, and especially do we appreciate the honor shown by the police department and deputies, and the beautiful floral offerings received from them and other friends and neighbors. They will always be gratefully remembered. Respectfully, O.C. Poff Mrs. W.C. Blake Mrs. Ben Mandell OAKWOOD CEMETERY
